Joel Rothman: The Mini-Monster Book of Rock Drumming A simple, basic introduction to straight 8th note feel rock playing. There's not a lot of writing in it, and it can be flexibly applied to a wide variety of different performance methods a la Gary Chester's The New Breed. This book is a good starting point
